Your Pregnancy

Regarding diet
Foods you should avoid are:
Raw Seafood
Raw Eggs
Raw Meat
Soft Serve Ice Cream
Regarding exercise
If you are currently exercising pre-pregnancy inform your trainer of your condition without delay. If, however, you wish to embark on your initial exercise program, we do recommend consulting with a professional trainer. In my over 3 decades of delivering babies I find it best to take a practical and sensible approach to the special time of pregnancy with the focused aim of ensuring your baby, and You, are both as healthy as possible.

Childbirth

Every birth is a unique, individual experience. At North Eastern, we manage our patients on an individual basis, yet occasionally, certain babies require a little more help to be born completely safely.

Why do so many women require a caesarean section?
The most common reason, of course, is that the baby’s head is simply too large. The other main reason is that the baby goes into some distress during the birth process, and that distress requires immediate attention and intervention. Every mother you’ll ever speak to has a different birth story, and we’re committed to ensuring all those stories end with the glorious gift of life.

Women’s Health

Since 2017 cervical screening for cancer of the cervix changed.

Why have a pap smear test every 5 years?
Prior to 2017 the pap smear test was used to identify any abnormal cells which could be precursors of cancer. Now we look for evidence of the human papilloma virus (HPV). If you do not have a high-risk of HPV, however, your risk of cervical cancer is highly unlikely. If, however, you do have a high-risk of HPV, then close, annual surveillance is required. With this new method the vast majority of low-risk patients will require cervical screening only once every 5 years.
