Meet Dr Tamlin
My friends and family most often describe me as “happy”, “engaging”, and “warm” (and often without prompting). I believe that this reassuring fact is a direct result of my love for all life. Even as a child I was a very inquisitive boy, always fascinated by my friend’s lives, and eagerly interested in everyone I’d meet. Now I’m the grateful father of 3 adult children, and spending precious time with my family and friends is one of the most important keys to my healthy lifestyle. Yet I remain passionate regarding many of the other healthier pursuits which enrich my life.
In my youth I had the pleasure and passion to play, coach and referee basketball, and also avidly played amateur tennis. I currently golf – and not just because I’m a doctor – and have enjoyed the rare privilege of playing 18 holes with 3 generations of golfing fanatic Tamlin’s.
I am an inquisitive person who, in the past, has ridden a Ducati motorbike with friends and colleagues through the breathtaking Italian Alps and enjoyed the thrill of riding at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit and Sydney Motorsport Park. I also attend the gym as well as Pilates to stay active and balanced.
Why I Love What I Do
Delivering healthy babies to healthy mothers is my number 1 professional passion. As an eager young medical student, I was profoundly inspired by the gift of delivering my first set of twins on a Good Friday back in 1985. From the late 1990s I refocused my professional goals and gratefully established myself full-time in obstetrics and gynaecology. Before that time, I could’ve been rostered on clinics or in emergency – which was deeply satisfying work – but I was able to understand that I truly loved being rostered on labour ward, and playing my part in the pure joy of the childbirth process. I believed back then that if I could devote all my professional energies and skills on the labour ward for the rest of my life, I would be a happy man.
Many years later I’m still a happy man. I consider helping women give birth to life to be one of the most profound privileges of my own existence. It is a genuinely unique opportunity at a very sacred and special period of every woman’s life, and the fact that I’m invited to be with them through the extended journey of pregnancy is a gift that fills me with gratitude.
